We are now smack, bang in the middle of summer and the harvest season is fast approaching with the grain harvest (also known as Lammas) only a week away. The fields are swaying with golden and green crops and the weather is warm and sunny and the land is dry (though not this week!). The farmers are getting ready and the grain mills are nearly empty awaiting a new influx of grain.
This is a time of great plenty and hope and it’s a time when we should all take stock and be grateful for what last years harvest has brought us.
Over the previous year you have all achieved, loved, hoped, enjoyed successes and survived failures, been the best and worst to yourself, made friends and enjoyed times of love and laughter with those you love.
So now is the time to look back and enjoy, be thankful for and feel gratitude for all those moments. The highs, the lows and the in-between’s that have all formed to create the perfect life for you, no matter what that is, where you are or what you are doing, when you really take stock of your life you will find yourself in the right place for you at this time.
Being grateful is about being present, in the moment and appreciating life just for today.
Not looking for something in the future that may or may not happen, not wishing on a star for that new job, holiday, car etc… instead accepting that what you have right here and right now is exactly what you need to be happy in your life.
We all need to change and move and push forward, but that only comes when you acknowledge where you are right now.
There will be no change or growth if you don’t appreciate and have gratitude for what you already have.
Every moment forward starts from the present moment and therefore everything is created from where you are right now.
From your dreams and ideas come your reality and your reality improves when you are grateful for where you are.
Expressions of Gratitude
Here are some easy way to begin or continue your journey with gratitude.
- Get yourself a gratitude book (just a small notepad will do) and every morning or evening write down 5 things that you feel grateful for in your life… right now.
- Take 5 minutes each day to stop and look around you, at your environment, at the home you live in, at your partner (the love of your life), at your true friends, at the things you own, at the beauty of nature in the open sky and the green earth just outside your window… just pause and feel how grateful you are for all these things and people being in your life already.
- Create an affirmation for yourself of gratitude. something like – ‘I feel an abundance of gratitude for everything I have and receive every day’ or ‘I am so grateful for every person and every thing in my life’ – and stick it up on all your mirrors in the house so that every time you look at yourself you will see this affirmation and express your feelings of gratitude.
- Learn about the earth you walk on and the connections that are out there for you to experience in the moment so that you can feel grateful every time you walk into a woodland, a field, a city park or just to a tree near your home, experience what you have been given to sustain and nurture you in the food you eat, like we spend time doing on the path of earth, which leads you on a journey through nature, appreciating and connecting to the sacred spirituality of the earth.
Going on this journey into gratefulness you will notice that you laugh more, feel more joy, experience more connection and appreciation for all around you, and gain a greater awareness of all your needs being fulfilled, not in the future but right here, right now.
